Install requires a 16 oz rubber mallet and 2x lumber (not included)

What you need
Lumber and mallet not included with your staple purchase.
A steel hammer can dent the staples. A 16 ounce rubber mallet works perfectly.
Your lumber, your choice
Find 2x lumber at home improvement and hardware stores, and lumber yards.
Many affordable options to choose from including:
- cedar
- redwood
- pressure treated lumber
- untreated pine or fir
We recommend lumber rated for ground contact.
If you can use a mallet you can make wood edging.

Place your lumber where you want to install it and then place your staple over the lumber.

Grip the staple with the thumb and fingers of your free hand to steady and guide it.

Use a 16 ounce rubber mallet to tap the staple into the ground until it's snug.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need besides the staples?
You'll need a rubber mallet (a 16 ounce mallet works great) and standard 2x lumber (2x2, 2x3, 2x4, 2x6) - easily found at your local home improvement and hardware stores.
Is lumber included?
No. 2xEDGE ships only the steel staples. You'll need to purchase standard 2x lumber (up to 2x6) separately.
2x lumber is readily available at your local hardware and home improvement stores. You can use any wood species, or composite and recycled plastic lumber, as long as it's true dimensional 2x lumber (nominal 2x, actual 1.5" thick). Not all composite decking is sized this way, so check before you buy.
What is 2x lumber?
"2x" refers to a nominal 2-inch width; the actual thickness is 1.5". You can find 2x lumber at home improvement stores like Home Depot and Lowe's, hardware stores, and lumber yards, in cedar, redwood, pressure treated, or untreated pine and fir. Composite and recycled plastic lumber can also work, as long as it's true dimensional 2x sizing (nominal 2x, actual 1.5" thick).
Which lumber sizes work?
2xEDGE works with standard dimensional 2x lumber: 2x2, 2x3, 2x4, and 2x6.
Will I need to cut my lumber?
2x lumber comes in standard lengths: 4-foot, 6-foot, 8-foot, 10-foot, and 12-foot. If those lengths work for your project then there's no need to cut your lumber.
If you require different lengths, you can make your own cuts with a hand saw or power saw, or ask the service desk at your purchase location if they can help. Home improvement, hardware stores, and lumber yards typically will cut for no or a small fee.
Will these work in hard soil?
Yes. 2xEDGE Staples work in most soils but dry or highly compacted soil (dry clay, caliche, desert hardpack) presents unique challenges. Some customers report success by watering the installation area first to loosen things up.

Can I remove the edging later?
Yes. The staples let you create edging that's easy to reposition & re-use. Just pull up your lumber & move it. Since the 2xEDGE method requires no digging you won't leave trenches all over your yard. And because the staples require no drilling through the wood for installation, your lumber stays intact. This means it will be viable, and re-usable, longer.
What if one part of my edging gets damaged?
Each piece of lumber is anchored independently. You can pull out the damaged section and swap in new lumber without disturbing the rest of your edging.

Works as designed, seems to be fine. Followed suggested number of staples based on length of 2 x 4 and used screws anywhere the ends butted together. Word to those buying wood fir your project, Lowes in my area did not carry “ground contact” pressure treated they only carried above ground pressure treated. You want ground contact lumber.

I wanted to edge either side of a long (80+ foot) sidewalk. Installation was pretty easy - even when I had to remove and adjust the boards. I really like the way it turned out and have gotten many compliments from neighbors.

We wanted to landscape our parkway plots, which was challenging because of a mature tree with all the roots you'd expect right in the middle. These staples helped us deal with the hump in the center and the compacted soil on all edges. It took these two senior citizens no time at all and no physical stress. They are probably meant for softer soil. Unfortunately the dirt where I live is way too hard.
I bought 8 but gave up after i bent 3 of them.
