How to Install Lumber With 2xEDGE Staples

These installation guidelines describe how dimensional lumber works with 2xEDGE Staples so your edging stays aligned and easy to adjust through seasonal movement.

Note: In conditions like rocky soil or competing tree roots, it’s normal to adjust staple placement as you go. Uneven spacing in these spots still secures the lumber effectively and won’t compromise performance.

Installing Lumber Up To 10-Feet Long

  • Place lumber on the ground where you want to install it.

  • Install staples 6”-12” from each end of the lumber.

  • Butt lumber together. Install staples 6”-12” from ends of outer pieces of lumber.

  • Install a staple over each seam.

  • Add one staple for each additional piece of lumber you want to install.

Once you understand how lumber is installed and supported, the next step is choosing a staple finish that fits your project design and environment.

Installing Lumber Over 10-Feet Long

  • Place lumber on the ground where you want to install it.

  • Install staples 12”-18” from end of board.

  • Place a staple mid-board to add stability.

  • Butt boards together. Install staples 12”-18” from ends of outer pieces of lumber.

  • Install a staple over each seam.

  • Place a staple at the mid-point of each piece of lumber for stability.

  • Add two staples for each additional piece of lumber you want to install.
