Best Wood Flower Bed Border? Ask a Flower Farmer

By Lisa Brooks

đŸ‘‹đŸŒHi there.

Nicole Dillon entered the world of 2xEDGE through Facebook. She commented on one of our posts which led to some direct messaging and the next thing I knew, I was shipping staples to Breemar Flower Farm, Nicole's fabulous flower farm located in Ashland, Virginia.

I asked Nicole to share her experience using 2xEDGE Staples to install an 80-foot long wooden border for a new pollinator strip flower bed. Here's what she had to say.

You own and run a flower farm so it's likely you've considered and used a variety of flower border edging options over the years. How does the 2xEDGE solution compare?

2xEDGE is much easier to use than other edging materials that I have used in the past.

It’s lighter weight, covers a larger area at one time making it much more efficient to install, and it’s sustainable.

The metal material should last many many years, the wood decomposes and is renewable, and because it is lighter weight than other edging options the carbon footprint for manufacturing and shipping is lower than other products on the market.

How long did it take, start to finish, to complete your wood flower bed border?

My project ended up being 80 linear feet. I started the project and loved the staples so much that I will order more and make my raised garden bed area even bigger!

I worked on the project a little at a time over a few days. It took me the most time to edge and remove turf away from my flower beds. Actually laying the edging and installing the staples was done in less than an hour.

How would you describe your wood border installation? Was it as easy/straightforward as we claim to use 2xEDGE Staples for this purpose?

Laying the edging was extremely straightforward. I didn’t even need to use any tools! I used my body weight to easily push the staples into the ground.

Thinking about the entire project - from designing with 2xEDGE Staples in mind, to getting lumber, to installing the wood flower bed border - what was the most difficult part? Did anything unexpected come up that you had to figure out or navigate?

Weeding the edge of my pollinator strip and removing the turf was quite labor-intensive. If I did it all over again, I may have considered renting a sod remover to make the project more efficient.

Now that I know about 2xEDGE, I will install the edging first before adding any plants to a new bed.

I didn’t realize that I needed edging at first, but wow what a huge difference it makes to my backyard farm aesthetics! The ease of weed eating going forward is just an added bonus.

On a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being "it's great!", how many stars would you give 2xEDGE Staples?

★★★★★ Without a doubt, 5 stars! More if I could.

Last question: what would you say to folks considering wooden edging options for flower beds?

If you’re looking for an edging solution that is not only easy to install but also uses natural, Earth-friendly materials, look no further than 2xEDGE. The company has incredible customer service and will ensure that you order the right amount of staples for your project.
